Survey Results

I was teaching a course of 20 students at a tertiary institution in August 2013. There was a mix of males and females, aged between 20 – 57, with a mixed knowledge and experience of meditation.

There was some tension and anxiety amongst them as an assessment due date was looming. I offered to do a 10 minute grounding with them.  The feedback was very positive, even from those who had little knowledge and no experience of meditation. So much so that every day after that when I was teaching them, they requested more of the same!! The following results taken from this group speak for themselves.

The sample survey was taken both just before and just after a meditation. The meditation focused on bringing participants into being grounded in the present moment. The survey was again repeated two hours after the meditation to see if there were any notable changes. Although the sample size is small, the results taken on face value are very encouraging.

Figure 1: Effect of meditation on the improvement of concentration. Target samples were treated with meditation for 15mins, and then have a break for 2 hours. The effect of meditation on the improvement of concentration was tested by survey form when finished treatment and after a break of treatment. Data represents mean ± SEM (n=1). ***p<0.001, Vs before meditation by One-way ANOVA followed by Bonferroni’s test.
